Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha
Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha was founded by five Laplanders living in Helsinki in 2009. Their music is a unique mix of ingredients marinated in many sauces, with strong flavours of Balkan Roma grooves, Russian romances and traditional Finnish tango and humppa. Laitinen’s vocals are accompanied by trumpet, bouzouki, accordion, double bass and drums. Together with the band Laitinen writes songs about life and its elements. Their playlist is 99% made up of the band’s own compositions with Laitinen’s lyrics telling about love and its bitter beauty, the mortal nature of human life, the deceptive glow of memories, the swaying earthly happiness and the inexorable vanity of our ambitions. Joy intertwines with sorrow in the rhythms and melodies, just like in life itself.

The band has achieved recognition and released three critically acclaimed albums. But it is for the live performances that the band has become famous as Finland’s wildest live act. This is a skill the band has perfected by playing around 80 gigs per year, from villages in the very north of Lapland to the hippest dance floors of Helsinki.

In 2015 the band has chartered into new territories. Music composed and performed by the band was featured in the documentary film ‘Kihniö’ by Saija Mäki-Nevala, released at the start of the year. The title song of ‘Bonaparty’, Django 3000’s latest album that hit the German Top 20 album list was co-written with Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha.
